Avrupalı kulüplerin UEFA dışındaki resmi olmayan dernek oluşumu The European Clubs Association (ECA) miili maçta oynayan oyuncuların olası sakatlıklara karşı sigortalatılabilmesi için arayışa girdi. Özellikle yıldız oyuncuların milli maçlarda sakatlanması kulüplerin en büyük sorunu.

Arda Turan ve hakan Balta'nın Milli maçta  sakatlanıp iki hafta oynayamayacak olması Galatasaray'a pahalıya mal olacakmış gibi görünüyor. Avrupa'da Hakan ve Arda örneklerinden bol miktarda var ve Avrupalı kulüpler bu durumdan ciddi şikayetçiler.

 The European Clubs Association (ECA) wants insurance to cover injuries to players on international duty and involvement in setting the international football calendar. The ECA claims its latest communiqué follows “several complaints from football clubs” and at its recent two-day general assembly, the body agreed to: “claims (sic) direct involvement in the definition of the international calendar; emphasise the urgent need of the creation of a formal consultation process between clubs and national teams regarding the physical conditions and injuries sustained while playing national team matches; [and] deems the introduction of an insurance policy for all national team matches necessary." ECA Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: "Everyone is so busy in securing additional dates for this or that competition and we forget that the players are often the same and they are stretched to the limit increasing the risk of injuries. A harmonised calendar and a clear insurance policy will be one of our main goals and this could help further to harmonize the relationship between club football and national team football." The call came after a two-day general assembly held by the ECA in Geneva. The ECA replaced the G14 group that was focused on the game’s biggest clubs with a larger, supposedly more inclusive body and representatives from 151 member clubs attended the recent assembly. Another 63 clubs have joined the ECA, taking membership up to 197 members with 103 full members and 94 associates. At the assembly, the full members voted in a new executive board of 11 members, who will join the four board members on the UEFA Professional Football Strategy Council (PFSC). The four PFSC members are Maarten Fontein (AZ Alkmaar), Umberto Gandini (AC Milan), David Gill (Manchester United) and Florentino Pérez (Real Madrid). The new ECA board sees Karl- Heinz Rummenigge of Bayern Munich as chairman and Gandini as his first vice chairman. Sandro Rosell of Barcelona is the second vice chairman and John McClelland of Scottish side Rangers the third vice chairman.

Despite the notionally more inclusive nature of the ECA, the only board member from outside the
higher echelons of European game is the Lithuanian Aušrys Labinas of FK Ekranas. The other board
members are: Gill, Pérez, Fontein, Ernesto Paolillo (Inter Milan), Jean-Michel Aulas (Olympique Lyonnais)
Evgeni Giner (CSKA Moscow), Diogo Brandão (Porto), Ebru Köksal (Galatasaray) Michel Verschueren
(Anderlecht) and the Serbian Marko Vjetroviæ (FK Partizan).
